If you required treatment but were unable to communicate your wishes, your AHD would effectively speak for you.

Health professionals would have to refer to it - and respect your wishes - even if you had an enduring guardian because in the hierarchy of treatment decision-makers, an AHD has precedence over the authority of an enduring guardian except in very limited circumstances.
